Interventional radiology is a new medical discipline emerging with the great development of modern medical theory and clinical technology applications. Using X-rays, CT, ultrasound, MRI, and other imaging modalities, interventional radiologists obtain images which are then used to treat patients using the least invasive techniques currently available in order to minimize risk to the patient and improve health outcomes. These procedures are usually called interventional therapy. Department of Interventional Radiology of Fudan University Shanghai Cancer Center was established in 2005. Currently, the department offers a full range of outstanding interventional diagnosis and treatment services including interventional ward, interventional operating room and outpatient service as well as clinic training in interventional radiology. The department has developed into a comprehensive diagnosis and treatment center for medical treatment, teaching and research. The department is staffed with a team of specialists comprising interventional radiologists, nurses and technicians who have extensive experience in the field. Medical team is a total of 20 people, including 1 professor, 1 associate professor, 2 attending physicians, 2 residents, and two current master's students. The department now has a lot of advanced medical equipment, including 2 sets of digital subtraction angiography equipment and radiofrequency ablation equipment, one set of ultrasonic Doppler flow imaging and cryoablation equipment. The department bed 28, year admitted patients nearly 1,000 people, more than 2,000 year surgical operations, year out-patient approximately 4,000 people, and about 2,500 biopsy cases every year. There are various types of procedures with wide range of applications in solid tumor and its related serious complication. Among these procedures, radiofrequency ablation performed in pulmonary metastasis and percutaneous biopsy in various organ diseases are placed in the lead level in our country now. The department has been one of the top centers of Shanghai and Yangtze River delta, and nationwide well-known center of benign and malignant tumors interventional diagnosis and treatment, attracts a continuous flow of patients coming. In recent five years, the department received a number of research projects on interventional radiology, including the National Natural Science Foundation, and project funds more than 200 ten thousand China Yuan. In biodegradable vascular implant materials and tumor gene therapy research has achieved initial results, obtained invention patent 7, published five papers per year on average and participated in writing many of the books.
Common IR procedures are:
1.Comprehensive interventional therapy for liver cancer, gastric cancer, esophageal cancer, lung cancer and pelvic malignant tumor, transcatheter arterial chemoemblization(TACE), CT/ultrasound guided radiofrequency ablation and cryoablation, etc.
2.Liver hemangioma, uterine fibroids and other benign tumor embolization.
3.Non vascular luminal stenosis or obstructive lesions (esophageal, gastrointestinal tract and the bile duct, etc.) plasty and stent therapy.
4.Comprehensive interventional therapy for liver cirrhosis portal hypertension, including partial splenic embolization and percutaneous transhepatic variceal embolization.
5. Interventional therapy for bone metastases, including vertebral plasty and bone cement injection.
6.Percutaneous biopsy in various organ diseases guided by CT, small pulmonary nodules preoperative localization for the video-assisted minithoracotomy wedge resection.
7.Port implantation guided by DSA.
